How It All Started
I’ve had the artistic bug for as long as I can remember. Drawing, painting, lettering, doodling – you name it! When I was about 4 years old, I started taking art classes at a local art museum where I grew up in Framingham, Massachusetts. My hunger to keep learning all of the ways to explore my creativity continued to grow into my adulthood.
Education + Training
I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Studio Art from The University of Wisconsin-Madison. After college, I made the move to the Big Apple. I took Continuing Education classes at The Fashion Institute of Technology while working full-time in the fashion industry. I took classes in Business, Fashion Illustration, Graphic Design, and more.
I moved to Dallas in 2008, and that’s where I was introduced to the world of calligraphy. I decided to take a formal calligraphy class with Susie-Melissa Cherry of Calligraphic Arts, shortly after I made the move from the NYC to Dallas. I was instantly intrigued and excited to have discovered this new craft. I started putting my new calligraphy skill to use with my own wedding. And with a lot of practice and patience, it blossomed from there.
The Beginning of ASD
After working several years in the corporate world, followed by a few months of being a stay at home mom, I decided it was time to turn my love for lettering into a business. I started off by creating place cards and signs for baby showers, birthday parties, and home holiday décor. I instantly knew that I could successfully apply this to SO many more products and mediums. Amy Sue Designs officially launched in 2017!
